We are looking for an intern who is interested in how we work with the private sector. In particular, how can mainstream natural capital into private sector descision making.

UN Environment World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) works with scientists and policy makers worldwide to place biodiversity at the heart of environment and development decision-making to enable enlightened choices for people and the planet.

One of UNEP-WCMC’s key strategic themes is to mainstream natural capital into private sector decision making. A particular focus of our work is to influence the private sector with relevant information and guidance on biodiversity to facilitate a transition from policy to performance. Our business-facing work provides tailored information on biodiversity and ecosystem services to support businesses, industry associations, governments and cross-sectoral initiatives. In addition to the provision of information, we work to support the evolution of effective corporate biodiversity management strategies as well as improvements in the national policy environment that enable effective implementation of these strategies.

The purpose of the internship is to learn from participation in existing and developing projects within our portfolio. This includes building understanding of the range of activity underway within the UN and broader NGO community on business on biodiversity, as well as the opportunity to support the development of new projects. In particular the work will include supporting our Business and Biodiversity Programme’s current work in developing corporate biodiversity indicators. This will involve performing background research on biodiversity indicators and indicators development, coordinating workshops, and organising meetings with multiple partners from the conservation community and private sector.

The internship will be hosted within our Business and Biodiversity Programme which leads our engagement with the private sector and those that influence corporate performance in relation to biodiversity.

We are looking for an intern to start in March 2019 for 12 weeks.

If you are interested in this placement, please submit a CV and covering letter through the link below by 1st January 2019. Please note an application form is not required with this placement.
