Cumbria Wildlife Trust is seeking three Conservation Officers to work alongside the Project Manager, Ecologist, Skills and Training Officer and Community Engagement Officer to support the delivery of all aspects of the Planting for Pollinators project and participate fully in the project training opportunities.

Planting for Pollinators is a Cumbria Local Nature Partnership project hosted by Cumbria Wildlife Trust and Cumbria County Council and funded by the Green Recovery Challenge Fund. The project is based at the Trust’s offices in Houghton just outside Carlisle.

The successful applicants will work with project partners to:

  • Assist in the delivery of pollinator habitat restoration/creation, in partnership with landowners, land managers, partners, community groups, volunteers.  This will include undertaking restoration of habitats, mapping and monitoring of habitats, undertaking species surveys and writing management plans.
  • Support the project staff in the delivery of a range of people engagement activities, including a mix of digital and face-to face learning for a wide range of audiences (landowners/managers, local communities, wider community).
  • Work closely with the project staff and communications team to take opportunities for promotion of wildlife gardening, including writing articles for internal and/or external publications, attending shows and events, promotion through social media, blogs and video diaries.
  • Participate fully in all aspects of the Planting for Pollinators training programme and complete all five units of the training framework.
  • Contribute to project monitoring and evaluation including the production of reports to fulfil funder and partner requirements.
  • Observe Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s working policies at all times, including those on Health & Safety and on Diversity & Inclusion.

The successful candidates will have demonstrable knowledge of and an interest in current environmental issues including pollinators, good written and verbal skills, be comfortable building new relationships with others and team working. Ideally they will have some volunteer and/or work experience in the environment sector although this is not essential. Experience of event organisation, social media and research skills are also desirable.

They must be highly self-motivated with drive and determination to succeed, a desire and commitment to gain practical, ‘on-the-job’ skills and training and a willingness to work outdoors on a range of sites in all weathers. This will require them to be self-disciplined and have confidence in own abilities. A full driving licence and use of own transport is also essential.
