BirdLife International is the world’s largest nature conservation partnership. Through our unique local-to-global approach, we deliver high impact and long-term conservation for the benefit of nature and people.

We are seeking a highly motivated and focussed individual to join the BirdLife Global Policy team. You will work to deliver on a range of significant biodiversity and development policy and advocacy initiatives, with a particular focus on safeguarding biodiversity associated with renewable energy and other development. You will also support BirdLife’s input in relation to mainstreaming and implementation to a number of key international policy processes, including the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), the Ramsar Convention, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Sustainable Development Goals.

• Location: Cambridge, UK
• Full time: 35 hours per week
• Contract: One year fixed term (may be extended subject to available funding)
• Salary: £25,000-£28,000 pro rata per annum (dependant on skills and experience), plus competitive 12% pension benefit
• Annual Leave: 25 days pro rata per annum in year 1, increasing by 1 day pa to 28 days

A major focus will be on developing, disseminating and advocating best practice policy messages, guidance, science and spatial planning tools on high priority development issues to key stakeholders. This will support efforts across the BirdLife Partnership, including working with Partners, to ensure biodiversity science, tools and safeguards are embedded in the policies of governments, international finance institutions and industry to secure a green and just recovery.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Degree (or equivalent experience) in a subject related to conservation, international policy, climate change or sustainable development
• A good understanding of global climate and/or development policy and multilateral environment agreements and processes
• A good understanding of the issues surrounding energy and other infrastructure development and biodiversity and associated policy mechanisms
• Experience of conservation issues and evidence of practice within the governmental and/or non-governmental sector
• Ability to prioritise effectively and conduct work of a high standard independently and to deadlines as part of a large decentralized team, demonstrating creativity and initiative
• Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written, to a wide range of audiences) and team working skills
