Analyse progress on crucial environmental goals and help to hold those in power to account.
The Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) was established in 2021. Our mission is to protect and recover the environment. We do this by holding government and public bodies to account. It’s high profile, dynamic work that has a real and positive impact on the state of our natural world.
You’ll be a key member of our Insights Directorate, which leads on preparing reports on environmental progress for the Westminster Government and Northern Ireland Executive. The team also supports investigation of environmental complaints and, where necessary, legal action. Its broad remit spans biodiversity, habitat quality, rivers and seas, air quality, waste and resources.
As a Principal Environmental Analyst, you’ll take the lead on a policy or topic in the sphere of environment and policy analysis. You might find yourself monitoring, critically assessing and reporting on government progress in improving the natural environment in England or Northern Ireland. Or you may provide wider expert analysis and insight in support of OEP goals, through conducting research and by managing the input of external experts. Helping to build our function from the ground up, you’ll enjoy scope to influence how we operate in our crucial early years.
To join us you’ll need a minimum 2:1 degree in an environmental science, social science or environmental economics discipline, or equivalent experience. You’ll bring to the role proven experience of strategically leading significant and complex analytical work in the science and policy landscape of England or Northern Ireland. We expect you to demonstrate a flair for collecting, analysing, interpreting and presenting multidisciplinary evidence using quantitative and qualitative methods. A skilled communicator, you can convey compelling narratives in briefings and advice. The ability to forge great working relationships and lead collaboration across teams is vital.
In addition to the rewarding nature of the job itself, you will enjoy a range of benefits including flexible working, generous annual leave, and outstanding support for learning and development.
