Overview
We are looking for a conservation-focused Regional Manager who will be responsible for the Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne and Bay of Plenty.
Do you want to be a leading voice for nature across the Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne & Bay of Plenty and help protect nature across New Zealand? Do you have the skills, courage and aptitude to drive change? We have a rare opportunity to join the Forest & Bird team as our Regional Conservation Manager across this area of the East Coast. This role is part time for 32 hours per week.
Requirements
- A tertiary qualification fields relating to conservation, ecology or science is desirable;
- An ability to maintain and develop relationships with iwi and hapū across the region;
- Sound working knowledge of New Zealand’s natural environment and conservation issues;
- Experience dealing with RMA statutory planning processes and conservation legislation;
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan and complete projects on time and within budget;
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills (with media experience an advantage);
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people;
- A high level of personal motivation, ability to initiate and complete tasks independently, and in a timely manner;
- Relevant, current and clean New Zealand driver’s license.
- Live in the Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne or Bay of Plenty (or be prepared to relocate at your own expense).
Responsibilities
Regional Conservation Managers (RCMs) are part of a team delivering Forest and Bird’s conservation outcomes by:
- Being an enthusiastic voice for nature
- Leading and supporting campaigns on conservation issues within the Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne and Bay of Plenty regions and across the country
- Helping shape environmental protection rules, resource-use decisions, laws and policies across our land, freshwater, and oceans
- Providing strategic guidance on conservation issues and activities
This position requires the successful applicant to work from home. A home office allowance is available to recognize this cost. Some travel will be a necessary requirement for this position.
