This is a fixed term (four years), full time position based at the Gold Coast campus.

The Project

A new research program to assess and enhance the health of coastal wetlands around the world is recruiting a science team capable of solving significant marine science challenges.

This is an opportunity to be part of a major initiative promoting the health of key ecosystems – mangroves, saltmarsh, seagrass and estuaries – and to advance the science of urbanisation, multiple stressors, climate responses and automated monitoring. Researchers will work in a supportive team with complementary skills in ecology, statistical modelling, big data, automation and science communication.

This four-year, internationally funded program is based at Griffith University’s largest campus on the Gold Coast, southeast Queensland, Australia. This is a hub for marine science, in a city surrounded by surf beaches, estuarine wetlands and montane rainforest, and with easy access to two international airports.

The role:
The Research Fellow, Statistical Ecology will have a key role in analysing data on environmental pressures and ecosystem state to quantify wetland health globally, and in modelling management scenarios to increase the effectiveness of coastal management actions.

The person:
The successful applicant will have completed a PhD in a relevant field, have experience in statistical analysis of environmental data, and preferably experience with assessment of the health of marine ecosystems. They will have evidence of high-impact publications, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a team.
