The Reserves Assistant – Broads South post holders (two posts) will be based at NWT Upton Broad and Marshes, in Norfolk, working at NWT managed sites primarily but not restricted to the Bure and Ant river valleys. The other sites include Ranworth Broad, Cockshoot Broad and Ebb and Flow Marshes NNR, Barton Broad NNR, Alderfen Broad and Stanley Carrs.

The Reserves Assistant – Broads North post holder will be based at NWT Hickling Broad NNR, working at NWT managed sites primarily but not restricted to the Upper Thurne river valley. Other sites include NWT Martham Broad NNR and NWT Pigneys Wood.

Both Reserves Assistants will carry out a variety of tasks, including habitat & species development, infrastructure maintenance, and using a variety of machinery. The successful candidates will have a good basic knowledge of wildlife conservation and habitat management techniques. Good communication skills are essential, both with colleagues and members of the public, as is the ability to work as part of a team in managing these important sites. The successful candidates will be willing and able to be trained in the use of a wide range of machinery and power tools including tractors and chainsaws. They will have some experience of working on a nature reserve or similar environment, in a practical role. Experience and/or training in use of tractors and chainsaws, livestock handling, brushcutter, mowers, pesticide use, relevant tractor related implements and first aid would be an advantage.

The posts present the opportunity to work on some of the county’s most important wildlife sites and enhance valuable skills in the development of nature reserves and their visitors.
