Overview

The River Warriors and Northern NSW Campaigns Coordinator will be responsible for leading, managing and coordinating our local campaigns within the Byron Shire, Tweed Shire and surrounds (with a particular emphasis on our River Warriors initiative on the Brunswick River).

The successful applicant will be responsible for implementation of our local team strategy, media interviews and public outreach, and will be Positive Change for Marine Life (PCFML)’s main point of contact in northern New South Wales (NSW).

Responsibilities:

• Leading PCFML’s River Warriors initiative on the Brunswick River (Brunswick Heads) and Terranora Creek (Tweed Heads). This will include fortnightly on-water kayak surveys and data collection; community engagement; volunteer recruitment and management; report writing; grant writing and implementation of grants and associated budgets; as well as active implementation of source-based mitigation measures;
• Hiring, managing and leading volunteers throughout the region. This includes managing teams and recruiting new teams for our range of initiatives within the Byron and Tweed Shire regions;
• Raising funds through corporate sponsorships, partnerships, grants and other philanthropic avenues;
• Providing input, and implementing our long-term strategies for our northern NSW campaigns – including working closely with a range of partners, sponsors and supporters to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes;
• Disseminating our project findings in a way that is suited to a broad range of stakeholders’ varying perspectives – in order to positively engage them in our work;
• Creation and input into media releases, social media and blog posts (in collaboration with our media team) to attract public awareness through local, regional and national media on a regular basis and at times when local projects have reached key milestones;
• Being available for comment on the organisation’s aims, objectives and progress in local newspapers, on TV and radio;
• Helping to run, promote, present at and/or organise PCFML events, presentations and market stalls;
• Providing feedback to the CEO on a monthly basis.

The respective candidate will ideally possess the following:

• Be a great ‘team player’ who understands group dynamics and can attract volunteers and supporters to the northern NSW PCFML team;
• Bring flair and innovation to PCFML – expanding the organisation’s supporter base within the region.

Key Selection Criteria:

• Experience managing teams and achieving outcomes, whilst working to multiple deadlines;
• Proven track-record of working with volunteers and members of the public in potentially hazardous environments where conditions can quickly change;
• Demonstrated ability to raise funds, write and acquit grants and/or build key relationships with a variety of partners, sponsors and individuals;
• Demonstrated ability to articulate objectives, goals and successes in a variety of ways (reports, social media, presentations, media interviews, written articles and blogs) to diverse audiences (businesses, government, members of the public, other NGO’s).

Minimum requirements:

• A Bachelor degree or higher in marine/environmental science, community/international development, project management or an associated field;
• A current Open Australian Driver’s License;
• A 4wd with the ability to tow a trailer and the experience to do so;
• An above-average level of fitness;
• Experience kayaking – preferably with a flat water or ocean kayak certification or associated qualification (or the ability to obtain one);
• A current Bronze Medallion or First-Aid Certificate (or the ability to obtain one);
• At least 2-years experience in a management or coordinator role.

Preferred:

• Proven track-record in fundraising, grant writing and project budgeting with proven ability to attract funding from a variety of sources and reach project milestones;
• Experience in report writing and acquittals;
• Experience with a range of project management tools and apps including Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Outlook), Asana, Slack, Trello and social media apps (including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube and Instagram).

Remuneration Details:

This role is part-time (22.5 hours per week) with an initial probation period of 3- months. We offer very competitive remuneration rates of $50,000 – $60,000p/a (0.6 FTE) as well as an additional 9.5% superannuation and travel expenses.

Location:

The role location is flexible within the northern NSW/SE QLD region, however applicants who live within/or can move within close proximity (within 45 mins) of Brunswick Heads, Byron Bay and Tweed Heads is preferred.
