Project Coordinator – Eurasian Curlew

This is a Fixed-Term, full-time role for 37.5 hours per week until 31st December 2024.

The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.

The Eurasian Curlew is one of the most urgent bird conservation priorities in the UK. Without immediate action this species faces extinction, and this is your chance to be an essential part of a team delivering major conservation interventions in sites across the UK. ‘Curlews in Crisis’ is a major delivery project funded through the EU’s LIFE programme and with generous support from the four country Statutory Agencies to reverse the fortunes of this iconic species.

What’s the role about?

This role will support the Project Manager to manage reporting systems and processes to keep the project on track. Key working relationships are with the Project Manager and with site teams delivering conservation actions across 5 priority landscapes: the Antrim Plateau, Northern Ireland; Erne Lowland, Northern Ireland; Conwy, North Wales; Geltsdale/Hadrian’s Wall Corridor, Northern England; and Insh Marshes, Cairngorms, North Scotland.

Key activities:

  • Working with site-based project staff and communications colleagues, develop and deliver annual communication plans, manage the projects online presence (website & twitter) and develop suitable project materials e.g., newsletters.
  • Data management of project information including some financial data and general project administration.
  • Work with staff, partners, contractors, and volunteers to ensure delivery to agreed standards of cost and quality on time
  • Produce project documentation and contribute to reviews
  • Support project legacy development
  • Highlight risks and issues to the Project Manager

Essential skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Some experience of being involved in project delivery or knowledge of project management theory
  • Competent IT user (MS Packages)
  • Ability to produce clear written communications
  • Proven time management and organisational skills
  • Able to work under pressure and adapt to changes
  • Enthusiasm to collaborate in a cross-functional and dispersed project team
  • Experience of organising training events, workshops or facilitated discussions and meetings
  • Ability to travel to remote locations without the use of public transport

Desirable skills knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrable experience of managing communications and engagement activities including managing social media accounts
  • Experience using SharePoint and OneDrive to store, manage and share information
  • Some experience or knowledge in funder reporting or financial administration of large value projects
