Overview
The seasonal ranger will work with the Falkirk Reserves Ranger to deliver a programme of environmental education, events and volunteer work groups, as
well as assisting with site management, survey work and other reserve duties as required.
Environmental Education
Work with the Falkirk Reserves Ranger to deliver an environmental
education programme, running both formal and informal environmental
educational activities to school groups, the Jupiter Wildlife Watch group
and others, outreach work and school visits where required;
Support the Falkirk Reserves Ranger in the delivery of an events
programme to the general public;
Maintain and develop activities and displays in and around the Jupiter
Centre;
Represent The Trust at local external events as required.
Site Management
Assist with implementing ongoing reserve projects;
Support and supervise volunteers and work experience students carrying
out practical tasks on the reserve;
Carry out practical reserve management tasks as required;
Assist with the running and maintenance of the Jupiter Visitor Centre and
the Jupiter Wildlife Gardens.
Surveys
Work with the Falkirk Reserves Ranger on a variety of survey work on the
reserve.
Person Specification
Qualifications, training, knowledge and experience
Essential Qualifications
HNC level in Countryside Management (or similar).
Experience
Proven experience in site management and environmental education work
is required.
Special Competencies, Skills and Experience
Essential
Ability to work and engage with a wide range of visitors, particularly in the
field of environmental education;
Ability to communicate effectively with visitors, colleagues, partners and
funders;
Ability to manage own time and work independently;
Self-motivated, enthusiastic and energetic;
Ability to work weekends and occasional evenings as agreed with line
manager;
Full clean UK driving license.
Advantageous
Experience of delivery of environmental education in an urban
wildlife/green space setting;
Experience of working with volunteer groups.
