JOB DESCRIPTION

The Wisconsin Sea Grant Summer Internship Program is a paid 10-week experience that places college undergraduate students with outreach or communications specialists on issues affecting coastal and water resources in Wisconsin. It provides a diversity of students with hands-on experience under the mentorship of a career professional. Interns will assist mentors with field work, analyses, research and/or outreach and public engagement efforts. The goal of the Wisconsin Sea Grant Summer Internship Program is to contribute to a diverse workforce that understands technical and social challenges facing coastal communities and the natural environment. The program helps prepare undergraduate students for graduate school, as well as careers in aquatic sciences and outreach.

AWARD AND ELIGIBILITY

Selected students will be awarded a $5,000 stipend. Need-based assistance grants may be available to help offset travel and living expenses. These will require a supplemental application once students are selected. Any undergraduate college student who will have completed the equivalent of one semester of full-time study by the conclusion of the spring semester and who will be enrolled in any accredited U.S. college or university in the fall of 2021 may apply. Students who will have graduated with an undergraduate degree from an accredited U.S. college or university during an academic year are eligible for the internship that following summer. Students from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

At the time of this notice of opportunity, public health protocols to curb the spread of COVID-19 are in place. While it is unknown if the pandemic will be widely circulating in summer 2021, all internships will be structured to accommodate either remotely conducted activities or safe, in-person activities. Resilience and flexibility given these uncertainties are necessary and appreciated.
