The Role

We’re looking for enthusiastic tutors who have experience managing groups of young people outdoors to lead fieldwork from our sites, whilst ensuring the health and safety of the group at all times.

Seasonal roles allow you to experience working life in our outstanding education centres throughout the core working season allowing you to follow other interests and pursuits over the winter months secure in the knowledge that you have a job to come back to.

FSC Epping Forest and FSC London, predominantly based at FSC Epping Forest, Loughton, Essex
Up to £21,197* per annum (pro rata) plus benefits
*With effect from 1 April the salary will increase to up to £22,582 (pro-rata) per annum.
Working pattern is 37.5 hours per week during the core season only (normally March to October) each year.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll play a key role in developing, planning and delivering first-hand experiences in the outdoors to students and help us work towards our vision to inspire everyone to be curious, knowledgeable, passionate and caring about our environment.

You’ll predominantly be teaching geography and biology to GCSE and A-level students and delivering science and cross curricular sessions to primary students during term time, therefore, it is essential you have the geography or biology subject knowledge to help support students in their learning. This is an active role that will see you liaise with groups and work collaboratively with team mates to plan inspiring experiences.

To make sure your subject knowledge i s current and your teaching and group management skills are always improving, we support you closely with a thorough induction into the FSC, Centre and your role including nationally recognised qualifications e.g. first aid and water safety and an ongoing verification of competence that ensures you’re able to operate safely in all of the field sites and deliver quality learning experiences.

We are looking for:

Someone who has the core subject knowledge to deliver geography and biology confidently and professionally in the field; this is an active role and will need our new colleague to be happy spending long, rewarding days outdoors in all weathers.

Having experience managing groups outdoors would be hugely advantageous as the core of all of our products is immersive learning in the field and the safety of our employees and customers is paramount; we want colleagues who are able to work under pressure and make sound decisions.

We need someone who is a competent team player and at the same time can work autonomously to meet deadlines and deliver the product. A lot of the planning time and classroom-based teaching will rely on digital platforms (Office, interactive whiteboards, presentation software, GIS, spreadsheets) so having experience and / or adept at learning new systems would be helpful.

Given our work relies on visiting groups, we want our new colleagues to be flexible and amenable to changing situations; we’re there to help the students learn and benefit from the fantastic learning locations on our ‘doorstep’ and occasionally things change, so we equip our colleagues to use their initiative and find customer-based solutions.
