Overview

Thetford, Norfolk / Full-time, 2 year fixed-term contract / (£26, 295 rising to £27,756 after 1 year+ pension)

British Trust for Ornithology is seeking applications for this full-time post, running for two years in the first instance, in our Combined Ecology team and based in our Thetford office in Norfolk. We are looking for someone who is able to use their skills, experience and knowledge to further develop our Combined Ecology consultancy, involving project management, project delivery, and developing new commercial work with existing and new clients and maintaining excellent client relationships. Rather than expecting existing expertise in all areas we are keen to hear from people with an aptitude for gaining new skills.

BTO has created Combined Ecology, a global-facing commercial consultancy based at our headquarters in Thetford, Norfolk,  (www.combinedecology.com)  We provide technical expertise related to biodiversity issues for private, public and NGO entities, especially in fields related to biodiversity assessment and monitoring, development of biodiversity indicators (e.g. UK government’s sustainability index), impact assessments, biodiversity-friendly building design, and policy formulation. For impact assessments, we are committed to identifying critical habitats and working with clients to find pragmatic solutions that take into account no net loss / net gain principles, identify suitable mitigation and offsets and adhere to guidelines such as IFC PS6 and the Equator Principles. In the past two years, Combined Ecology has undertaken a number of large projects including ecological studies for the Tidal Lagoon Power in the UK, a wind farm project in Ghana and a large hydro-electric project in Sierra Leone. It is expected the work would include a mix of projects both inside and outside Europe.

Being at the forefront of technical innovation is important to Combined Ecology and, through having strong academic links, we can offer clients access to, for example, eDNA meta-barcoding for assessing freshwater fish diversity, and  state of the art GPS tracking devices under our  Movetech Telemetry brand.

Closing date for receipt of applications is 1pm on Tuesday 12 December 2017.

It is anticipated that interviews will be on Tuesday 16 January in Thetford. We will contact candidates about the outcome of their application by Friday 15 December.
