Its landscape has been changed from one of intensive coal production to a series of nationally important wetlands supporting breeding bittern, spoonbill, black-necked grebe, bearded tit, lapwing, redshank and willow tit amongst a wide range of breeding, wintering and migratory widlife, including an enviable rarity track record.
