Are you social savvy and passionate about wildlife conservation? Would you love to help conservationists find meaningful, impactful careers? 

Then we want YOU as one of our Social Media Officers (Volunteer) to help grow and engage the Conservation Careers community and share exciting new resources for conservationists!  

We have two volunteer (unpaid) roles, based anywhere with an internet connection. You’ll need at least 3-4 hours per week for 6 months, and in return you’ll receive career support and training.

About the role

As Social Media Officer (Volunteer), you’ll manage and develop Conservation Careers’ social media platforms and communities (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), as part of our mission to help conservationists achieve career success. 

Location: Anywhere! (home-based) 

Start date: 12 June 2023

End date: 22 Dec 2023

Hours: 3-4 hours per week. This can be done flexibly, so long as tasks are completed and you’re available to check in regularly for team communication and responding to comments on social media.

Trial period: 1 month 

Our social media following has more than doubled in the past year and we now have more than 199,000 followers on social, on the following channels: 

This is an exciting time to join Conservation Careers. You’ll help share brand-new resources we’re developing for conservationists, including our online training programmes, ultimate guides, podcast, career coaching and much more. 

Responsibilities

You’ll be part of a two-person team, sharing the following responsibilities:

  1. Programme promotion: Create social media campaigns to promote Conservation Careers online training programmes.
  2. Content promotion & engagement: Promote regular content including webinars, podcast episodes, ultimate guides and careers advice interviews.
  3. Viral posts: Find and share great job, internship, volunteer, training and other opportunities that are likely to be popular with our audience.

There is scope to explore other ideas of interest if they align with our mission. Here are just a few of the exciting upcoming projects you could have the opportunity to contribute to:

  • Helping us launch our brand new Conservation Pathway Programme for career switchers.
  • Creating social media campaigns to promote Conservation Careers’ online training programmes.
  • Using creative approaches or campaigns to grow our LinkedIn channel.
  • Using creative approaches to increase engagement across all channels. 
  • Promoting our CC Pro community for conservationists.
  • Celebrating Diversity in Conservation by sharing careers advice from diverse conservationists.
  • Developing an image database to showcase conservation jobs in action.

Examples of past and current projects our social media volunteers have led include:

  • Leading social media campaigns to promote the Conservation Career Kick-Starter, Career-Boosters and other online training programmes.
  • Leading the launch of new programmes and resources.
  • Using polls and other interactive tools to engage our audience.
  • Developing best practice guidelines.
  • Designing templates for different types of content on social.
  • Creating video trailers to promote webinars and podcasts.

About you

We’re seeking people who are passionate about helping conservationists enjoy fulfilling, impactful careers. 

Essential:

  • Excellent attention to detail and a healthy dose of creativity.
  • An eye for crafting posts that grab attention.  
  • Knowledge of social media best practice for at least one of the core platforms we manage (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
  • A high level of teamwork, reliability and positivity.
  • Complete English fluency (writing, reading, speaking and listening). Applicants from any country are encouraged to apply, but you must have English fluency equivalent to native level to be considered. 

Desirable:

  • Experience successfully building and engaging online communities, especially on LinkedIn.
  • Experience delivering effective social media campaigns.
  • Knowledge of best practice for additional channels we manage (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube).
  • An understanding of the impact social media can create for a business.
  • Experience using Hootsuite.
  • Experience using Canva.
  • Graphic design skills.
  • Video editing skills.

Your posts should include text, image(s)/video, link and hashtags (where appropriate) and be sent as screenshots of draft posts (e.g. either on the social platforms themselves or via a publishing platform like Hootsuite).
