The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife is looking for a field intern to conduct surveys for the New England cottontail rabbit (NEC), a State Endangered species. Surveys include walking through suitable habitat (thickets of shrubs and young trees) searching for tracks and pellets (which are collected for genetic analysis), collecting data on habitat and tracking conditions, and accurately filling out datasheets. Other duties may involve contacting landowners to request permission for surveys on their property, data entry, updating GIS layers, and possibly others as assigned.
