Job description: The lava tubes of El Malpais National Monument contain very fragile ecosystems that are highly dependent upon the stability of their microclimate. These microclimates are influenced by the surface climate of the region, which have increasingly shown a significant increase in temperature and a decrease in precipitation. This has been evidenced by the fact that many of the lava tubes with perennial ice (lava tubes at El Malpais NM have the most southerly perennial ice in North America) has shown signs that it is receding. The intern will be responsible with assisting us in placing dataloggers and collecting their data. This will better assist us in understanding the microclimate of our caves and the threats to increased aridity and temperatures. One s
