The Song Saa Foundation is a not-for-profit NGO dedicated to marine conservation and community development, located in the stunning Koh Rong Archipelago. We are partnered with the Song Saa Private Island (SSPI), and the Song Saa Foundation (SSF) is looking for an enthusiastic and articulate Sustainability Facilitator to join our team. This role supports SSPI guest engagement and fundraising efforts for SSF while contributing to our grant objectives to strengthen Marine Protected Area governance in the region. Location: Song Saa Private Island, Koh Rong Archipelago, Preah Sihanouk, Cambodia
Position Type: Full-Time, 1 Year contract, 6 days per week
Start date: Mid-November at latest
Reporting to:
 SSF’s Program Manager 

1. Guest Engagement and Fundraising 

  • Engage SSPI guests with SSF’s marine and community projects by staffing the Discovery Centre.
  • Coordinate and deliver SSF tours and workshops for SSPI guests on a daily basis.
  • Drive fundraising efforts through guest donations. 

2. Grant Objectives Support 

  • Assist in achieving SSF’s grant objectives, including marine biodiversity monitoring, community outreach education, and enhancing community livelihoods. 

3. Communication 

  • Effectively communicate SSF’s work through various media channels to increase awareness and support. 

4. Team Coordination 

  • Attend morning SSPI briefings to represent SSF and stay informed about daily activities.
  • Collaborate with SSPI to ensure seamless guest experiences and activities.

Specific responsibilities: 

Support Song Saa Foundation fundraising initiatives by engaging SSPI guests in Foundation marine and community projects 

  • Engage SSPI guests with the Foundation’s marine and community projects to enhance fundraising efforts. 
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the SSF projects, both marine and community-focused, to effectively communicate and engage guests in the Foundation’s work. 
  • Provide support to the Foundation team by managing the Discovery Centre, occasionally independently, to present current projects to resort guests and encourage participation in fundraising tours and workshops. 
  • Facilitate guest involvement in awareness and fundraising activities, including leading project tours, beach cleanups, and underwater cleanups 

Support implementation of SSF initiatives and grant objectives 

  • Assist the Marine Scientist in achieving grant objectives, which includes collecting marine biodiversity data, maintaining the coral nursery, and advancing the artificial reef project. 
  • Ensure prompt and accurate data entry into the Cambodian data archive. 
  • Support the delivery of the Ocean Stewardship Program to Foundation volunteers by coordinating with the Foundation team. 
  • Collaborate with the Community Coordinator to develop and deliver educational presentations on environmental issues and health and hygiene. 
  • Aid in delivering outreach education to the youth of the Koh Rong Archipelago through awareness sessions, the Boat of Hope initiative, and community beach cleanups. 
  • Receive comprehensive training and support from the Foundation for the effective implementation of SSF initiatives. 

Communication of Song Saa Foundation work 

  • Assist the Foundation’s digital content creators in producing impactful, science-based newsletters and media that highlight the Foundation’s achievements. 
  • Contribute to the promotion of the Foundation’s online fundraising initiatives. 
  • Support the Foundation team in drafting and preparing reports for donors 

Attendance at SSPI morning briefings 

  • Attend daily briefings on behalf of SSF to provide updates to the wider team regarding daily activity plans. 
  • Coordinate SSPI guest activities with the Guest Experience team. 
  • Relay any pertinent information back to the Foundation team. 

Extra duties 

From time to time the SSF Sustainability Facilitator may be asked to undertake duties that are not included in this job description. They should agree to undertake these duties as long as the request is reasonable and will not affect their health, safety or security. 

Candidate requirements: 

  • This position is open to fluent English speakers with strong interpersonal skills (essential) 
  • Proactive and confident – able to reach out and engage diverse audiences (essential) 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a science related discipline – preferably conservation or environmental focused (desired) 
  • Minimum Advanced Open Water Diver with 50+ dives (essential) 
  • Experience in marine biodiversity data collection (desired) 
  • Experience in living in remote or communal living conditions (desired) 
  • A willingness to learn new information and a dedication to exemplary customer service, with confidence and a friendly attitude (essential) 
  • Experience with basic Microsoft Office packages, e.g. Word; Excel (essential) 
  • A passion for sustainability and Cambodian community development (essential)

  • All work-related travel and accommodation costs are covered 
  • A monthly sum of USD $10 will be provided for work related calls. A telephone is not provided
