Salary: £25,000.00 per annum + Veolia Benefits

Location: Southwark, IMWF

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm – Additional hours may be required to cover busy periods / events

Where you’ll work

This exciting opportunity has arisen due to a restructure within the team, we as a company are focusing on achieving a greater impact on the recycling rate, and therefore, this is an excellent time to become a member of a new team with a refreshed purpose. You will be based in our flagship Integrated Waste Management Facility in Southwark, an innovative site which treats over 200,000 tonnes of recycling and waste every year, providing green products and energy, and saving precious natural resources. The site supports one of our key local authority recycling and waste contracts in South London.

What you’ll do

As the Communications, Education and Outreach Officer you will research, develop and deliver communications, education and outreach projects to promote recycling services to communities across the contract. Additionally you will be responsible for communicating with residents on service issues and queries. Supporting behaviour change with the public as well improvements to the performance of the services we offer, will be vital to the success of the role.

Researching, developing and leading new campaigns and projects to increase recycling
Working with third party agencies to deliver outreach work across the borough
Briefing and managing design agencies, printers and other third party suppliers to provide effective marketing materials
Providing high quality press support to media outlets and Southwark Council press office, including the preparation of news releases, media briefings and filming schedules
Providing education sessions, tours and presentations for school groups and other visitors to the Southwark IWMF
Developing and managing website content, including liaison with Council communications team, copywriting and updating content via a html editor
Communicating with residents and council on recycling and waste issues, ensuring that information provided is of the highest possible standard and conforms to the correct format and style
Liaising with the operational team on service issues and campaign plans
Conducting internal PR to engage with staff

Your skills and qualifications

To excel in this role you will need to be a persuasive communicator, self-motivated, have excellent attention to detail, and strong organisational skills. You will be enthusiastic, creative and passionate about the environment, with a real desire to improve recycling in the borough. To enable you to carry out this role you will have:

Proven experience in project planning and management
Strong communication and presentation skills
Strong organisational and multi-tasking skills
Excellent written and spoken English with a high degree of attention to detail
Able to demonstrate creativity and innovation
Strong MS Office skills and highly computer literate
Strong negotiation skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure
Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team
Understanding of communications and marketing processes
Experience of working in the waste management or environmental industry (desirable)
Educated to degree level or equivalent preferably in environmental communications, waste management or related subject
Experience of engagement and outreach work with school children and the public (desirable)
