Opportunity: Voluntary role

About Us:

Our vision is a world where all young people feel informed, inspired and empowered to take action to protect our people, wildlife, and ecosystems. We are a non-profit social enterprise providing free conservation and environmental education to primary and secondary school children – to arm them with the facts and skills to take positive climate action. Our programmes are designed by our expert partners and are led by our passionate volunteers.

The Opportunity:

As Volunteer Community Lead you will support our Founder & Director and our Education Programme Coordinator. This is a voluntary role within our team, to help us support and build our lovely community and have an even bigger impact.

This role will help us to recruit and support volunteers in the area local to them. We want to be able to create regional teams of volunteers and establish relationships with schools and young people in these targeted areas. As well as this, we want to create communities who feel able to meet in person, establish strong connections and support one another.

Why you want to join:

  • To build upon your knowledge of climate change, wildlife conservation and the role we can all can play in taking positive action
  • To gain experience of leading and supporting a team
  • To help to increase the provision of conservation education in your local community
  • To be able to directly engage with, inspire and support volunteers, young people and teachers
  • To develop your skills, confidence and experience in public speaking and facilitation
  • To be part of an awesome volunteer team, checking-in and supporting each other in navigating the weight of climate change
  • To have a fun, enjoyable, educational and rewarding experience

Objectives:

  • Assist the Education Programme Coordinator to recruit and support volunteers within their local region. This would involve marketing volunteer opportunities and being an advocate for the work VFF does.
  • Be a go-to person for volunteers within their local community
  • Liaise closely with Laura and the Education Programme Coordinator regarding the school outreach strategy and assist with recruiting schools and supporting them locally.
  • Help to co-ordinate larger events where higher numbers of volunteers may be needed.
  • Lead on organising quarterly social events and encouraging volunteers to get together to build a sense of community and support.
  • Share mini updates and newsletters with volunteers, which may contain interesting news stories, feedback from workshops, job opportunities, or just cool facts!
  • Explore ways in which we can continue improving the experience volunteers have with us, with both their personal and professional development.

Person Specification

  • A people-person; positive, outgoing, approachable and empathetic
  • Comfortable working as a team
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • A strong communicator (written and verbal)
  • Comfortable with delivering and leading small events

We are looking for team members who want to play a more active volunteering role and take more ownership of the kind of contribution and impact they would like to have with us. You will believe in what VFF is trying to achieve and be eager to see our team grow and develop.

Our proudest attribute is our lovely volunteer team, with their shared passion and desire to make a tangible difference. Our culture is friendly, diverse and empathetic. We prioritise mental health and the need for flexibility, and we are looking for someone to embody this and continue to increase our team connection!
