Head of Environment Department Labe, Republic of Guinea THE WILD CHIMPANZEE FOUNDATION IN GUINEA The WCF in support of the Guinean government began since 2017 a project to create the Middle Bafing National Park of nearly 6 500 km 2 along the Bafing River, straddling the natural regions of Foutah-Djallon and Upper Guinea. Numerous past and ongoing biological, economic and social studies have identified the Middle Bafing Region as a priority conservation area, and a creative process for a national park is underway. This area with more than 4,600 chimpanzees contains the largest population of West African chimpanzees, a critically endangered subspecies.
