The Great Basin Institute, in cooperation with the US Forest Service’s Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) is recruiting (2) Wilderness Ranger Technicians to educate the public and monitor wilderness areas around Lake Tahoe.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides detailed information about recreation opportunities to Forest visitors. Informs the public about resource management practices, regulations and current conditions.
  • Initiates visitor contacts for Wilderness permit compliance and backcountry education.
  • Patrols wilderness to ensure areas are operated, used and maintained in accordance with Wilderness Management Plan.  Wilderness patrols are a mixture of day patrols and multi-day trips.  Naturalizes sites where necessary in order to
