This 2021 SAWS Wilderness Specialist (Specialist) will work with five different federally designated wildernesses across the Francis Marion and Sumter National Forest. The Specialist will help the forest implement wilderness character monitoring, write a primitive and unconfined recreation advisory document, continue wilderness education efforts, and develop a wilderness fire management checklist. The Specialist will learn and become well-versed in the national wilderness character monitoring framework and help coordinate with Forest Service staff to collect and compile relevant wilderness data to be used to write baseline assessment reports for three wildernesses.
