Overview
Immerse yourself into the wild depths of Zambia and become involved in protecting and conserving wildlife and biodiversity. Contribute to elephant conservation in one of the world’s most awe-inspiring wilderness areas and gain insight into real species conservation! During your volunteer adventure, you will spend each week in a different location in this fascinating country – from the vibrant capital of Lusaka to spectacular Kafue National Park.
Note: You also have the option of spending your entire time in Lusaka or spending the majority of your three weeks in Kafue, should this be your preference. (Dates may differ)

Details
You will start your volunteer adventure at the Elephant Nursery near Lusaka where you will spend your first few days.
Here, you and your team members will be involved in biodiversity surveys in Lusaka National Park, vegetation and transect surveys, identifying and tracking wildlife through spoor and scat observations and different community outreach projects. You’re next project site where you will stay is at Kafue Release Facility in Kafue National Park. On your way to Kafue, you will make a stop at the Musa Camp where you may visit the Primate Centre, where over 810 vervet monkeys and baboons have been successfully reintroduced into the wild, achieving a survival rate of 85-100%.

During your time at the Release Facility in Kafue National Park, you will participate in biodiversity surveys, community outreach projects, learning about our partner’s elephant rehabilitation and release programme, training in elephant behavioural observation studies as well as staff capacity building belong to the typical volunteer tasks. The day before your scheduled departure, you will be driven back to the Elephant Nursery near Lusaka where you will stay the night followed by an airport drop-off the following day.
Please note the hands-off policy: for ethical reasons, only professional employees are allowed direct contact with the elephants.

Accommodation
In Lusaka, you will be accommodated in the project’s Elephant Nursery. Here you will get your own tent and use shared sanitary facilities.

Your second camp is the Kafue Release Facility. Here you will also be accommodated in your own little tent, equipped with a mattress and bedding, and use shared sanitary facilities.
As a volunteer you will receive three meals per day which will be prepared as a team. You will have one off-day per week which you can use to explore the surrounding area.
