About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and resilient Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) to maintain our fleet to the highest standards of safety and airworthiness. Operating in remote "bush" environments, you will be responsible for ensuring our aircraft are mission ready to support conservation efforts under demanding conditions. The position will be based in Johannesburg, RSA at the African Parks Aircraft Maintenance Organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the continued airworthiness of the African Parks fleet of aircraft.
- Continued care and pro-active maintenance of African Parks aircraft.
- Maintenance & Inspections: Conduct routine maintenance, scheduled inspections, and unscheduled repairs in strict compliance with Civil Aviation Authority regulations and African Parks SOPs.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical system issues efficiently to minimise aircraft downtime.
- Compliance: Evaluate Service Bulletins (SBs) and Airworthiness Directives (ADs) and ensure all maintenance records and logbooks are accurately maintained.
- Facility Management: Oversee the hangar, aviation stores, and refuelling systems, ensuring all tools and equipment are accounted for and serviceable.
- Logistics: Assist in the procurement of aircraft parts and consumables through official channels while adhering to agreed budgets.
- Safety Culture: Promote a rigorous safety culture among the aviation team and provide technical support to pilots and ground crews.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid SACAA Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License.
- Proven experience and qualifications on Cessna 100 and 200 series aircraft, (C180, C182, C206 series).
- Proven experience and qualifications on Lycoming and Continental engines, (470, 520, 540 series)
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience on Cessna 100 and 200 series aircraft.
- Strong understanding of general aviation maintenance procedures and documentation.
- Resourceful, resilient, and able to work autonomously. A strong passion for wildlife conservation is a significant plus.
- High attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Valid Passport and required travel documents and vaccinations
- Valid driver’s licence
- English, and French proficiency will be an advantage.
- Willing and able to travel extensively across Africa
Preferred Qualifications / Attributes:
- FAA A&P Certificate.
- Experience in field maintenance and troubleshooting.
- SACAA AP (Approved Person) on light-sport aircraft
- Rotax (912, 914, 915) experience and qualifications.
- Familiarity with general aviation shop practices.
