Position Profile

The Center for Large Landscape Conservation (CLLC) is seeking its second-ever Chief Executive Officer. CLLC’s mission is to safeguard nature’s resilience by reducing habitat fragmentation, promoting connectivity-centered land management, and mitigating barriers to wildlife movement, with the goal of reconnecting large landscapes worldwide.

About the Center for Large Landscape Conservation

Founded nearly 20 years ago by visionary Gary Tabor, CLLC has been a pioneer in connectivity science – a critical component of modern conservation. The organization works at the intersection of science, policy, and on-the-ground projects to protect and connect vital habitats.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary, mission-aligned leadership and strategic direction for CLLC.
  • Assume overall operational responsibility including managing a ~$3.5 million budget and a team of 20+ professionals.
  • Strengthen internal systems and build a high-performing, inclusive team culture.
  • Guide programmatic work in ecological connectivity and large landscape conservation.
  • Serve as the lead ambassador and fundraiser by cultivating relationships with philanthropic, governmental, nonprofit, academic, and community stakeholders.
  • Oversee financial strategy and ensure sustainable resource management.
  • Partner with the Board of Directors to shape and execute strategic priorities.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is an adaptive, strategic leader with expertise in organizational change, team leadership, and fundraising. They should have a deep commitment to conservation, demonstrated through experience in connectivity science or related fields, and ideally possess national and/or international networks.

Location & Travel

This position is based in Bozeman, Montana. The successful candidate is expected to work in-person at the organization’s headquarters and undertake moderate domestic and international travel (~15-20%).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $190,000 - $220,000 (commensurate with experience).
  • Health Insurance: 100% coverage of premiums.
  • Retirement: 401(k) plan with a 5% match, fully vested immediately.
  • Time Off: Paid vacation, personal, and holiday time.
