Individual Placement - Fish Biotechnician At Little Goose Dam

Position Summary

Learn and participate in the Lower Snake River Little Goose Lock and Dam Juvenile Fish Collection - Transportation Program and the Adult Fishway Passage System. Participants will learn identification of and execute and monitor juvenile through adult salmonid species (Chinook, Steelhead, Coho, and Sockeye), lamprey, and other common freshwater fish. Tasks include data collection, reporting, and direct handling of all fish species for successful movement of fish within the facility in accordance with fish passage plan criteria. Position will also entail status reporting to monitor criteria points within the adult channel and ladder passage systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Monitor and steward successful fish movement through the facility separator, adult release tank, holding tanks, sample tanks, wet lab tanks, research tanks, truck transport tanks, barge holds, and raceway infrastructure in accordance with fish passage plan criteria.

Marginal Duties

Adult Fishway criteria monitoring and reporting. Juvenile Fish Bypass System monitoring and reporting. Learn how and execute Adult Fishway Channel monthly flow measurements.

Required Qualifications

Students or participants interested in biology, fish management systems, and / or general livestock handling

Preferred Qualifications

Current or past students with educational coursework with or relevant to fish species. Individuals with current or past work experience with or relevant to fish species.

Hours

40 per week

Living Accommodations

There is a house with 2 room accommodations located nearby in Dayton, WA. The rental is $450 / month when shared with one of our seasoned returning Biological Sciences Technician personnel. Rent includes all utilities and WiFi availability.

Compensation

$400/week, $75/week commute, $1,000/month housing, travel $650

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
