Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) is an internationally operating conservation organisation based in Germany that has been implementing conservation projects in Africa, South America, South-East Asia and Europe for many decades. The FZS Europe Programme aims to maximise the organisation’s conservation impact by safeguarding large, biodiverse wilderness areas, mainly in Eastern Europe. Junior Project Co-Manager (f/m/d)

The SNPA project is funded within the framework of the German Financial Cooperation (FC) through KfW Development Bank (KfW). The Project-Executing Agency is the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine (MENR).The post holder will support the Team Leader on a day-to-day basis. His/her main responsibilities are related to general project management and administration as well as technical conservation matters. The position will be based in Lviv, with extended stays (several months) to Frankfurt in the first year of employment.

Main Tasks and Duties

  • General project management tasks: support the preparation of monthly and biannual project reports, financial management and reporting tasks, management of the project’s so called “short-term experts”, and follow-up and recording of their technical and time input etc.
  • Support project procurement activities for goods and services, including the development of terms of references and tender dossiers (e.g. regarding equipment, infrastructure, consultancy services)
  • Support the development of adapted technical solutions to be implemented in the project, as for example the development of new approaches in protected area management, biodiversity monitoring, modern training and capacity building contents, ecotourism development, new communications and branding approaches in the protected areas sector.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • MSc or equivalent advanced degree in public administration, conservation, biology, geography, forestry, international affairs, environmental studies or related fields
  • At least two years of professional and international project management experience in the field of international and, ideally, European conservation/protected areas issues; experience in Ukraine is an asset
  • Proven organizational, management and multitasking abilities, including good performance under pressure
  • Proven interest and experience in procurement matters related to protected areas support or conservation related matters
  • Profound knowledge of technical conservation matters, including equipment applied in this context (from research to infrastructure)
  • Interest in administrative and technical support to a large scale and high-impact conservation project
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills with the ability to effectively and professionally communicate at all levels
  • Excellent written and oral command of the English language required; Ukrainian language skills are advantageous
  • Willingness to travel regularly between Frankfurt and Lviv as well as within the Carpathian project region is a prerequisite.
