Description
Goshen College is a Christian liberal arts institution focused on leadership, service, and sustainability, grounded in Anabaptist-Mennonite values. The Marine Station Resident Assistant supports students participating in a semester-long marine program based in the Florida Keys.
This live-in role provides administrative, logistical, and student support throughout the program. The position works closely with faculty to manage community living, student well-being, and program operations while helping coordinate academic and extracurricular activities.
Responsibilities
- Support the Marine Biology Director in academic programming, partnerships, and internship coordination
- Establish relationships with students and address living, health, and safety needs
- Manage group dynamics to foster a cohesive and productive student community
- Assist in planning and coordinating educational, recreational, social, and spiritual activities
- Review and implement student life and off-campus study policies
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support overall program operations
- Provide counsel and support to students and respond to requests for assistance
- Refer students to appropriate academic, counseling, or support services
- Participate in student alert systems and monitor student well-being
- Interpret and enforce community standards and institutional policies
- Participate in disciplinary processes when necessary
- Intervene in crisis situations and maintain on-call availability
- Communicate student concerns to faculty leadership and program directors
- Plan and implement regular student activity programs
- Maintain consistent communication with students in formal and informal settings
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two years of post-baccalaureate work experience
- Ability to manage logistics for field trips and student activities
- Ability to work a flexible live-in schedule including nights and weekends
- Strong interpersonal, conflict management, and communication skills
- Ability to respond to mental health crises and coordinate with care providers
- Valid driver’s license
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Ability to work closely with individuals from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
- Physical ability to swim, snorkel, and maintain research equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- International or cross-cultural experience
- Experience with planning, accounting, and reporting tasks
- Experience working with university-level students
- Lifeguard certification
- Experience in marine research, boating, or snorkeling
Additional Notes
- Location: Layton, Florida Keys, approximately two hours south of Miami
- Schedule: Temporary 3-month position (mid-August through November), live-in role with 24/7 student support expectations
- Housing: Private bedroom and bathroom provided on-site
- Meals: Included with students
