Working as part of the Northumberland Coast team, you'll help manage the Farne Islands, a small island group off the coast of Northumberland. The role will involve living and working on the islands, assisting with all aspects of the National Trust property. The post-holder will also work closely with a team of other property Rangers and volunteers.
The role will involve extensive engagement with visitors on a daily basis, as you'll be enabling visitors to experience and understand the islands, gaining supporters for the work we do. This will include selling National Trust membership manning the visitor centre and guided people round the islands. As well as public engagement, the post holder will undertake a wide range of practical tasks including species monitoring, habitat management and anything which crops up with living and working on an island.
You'll undertake practical work to protect and enhance the conservation on the Farne Islands. You'll always take pride in your work and ensure that the properties and their infrastructure are maintained and presented to the highest standards. You'll assist with our coastal volunteer programme as well as occasionally leading guided walks and talks with education and school groups. The main tasks that you'll be involved in will include the monitoring and recording of nesting seabirds and other flora and fauna and practical management, such as strimming and maintenance of countryside furniture.
The role will include regular weekend, evening, early morning and bank holiday working on a rota basis. Occasionally situations may arise that require the post holder to perform other duties or tasks as may be reasonably requested by the Trust including work with the wider property on the Northumberland coast. Although weekly hours are full time, the working pattern of this role depends on the demands of the area at the time. You may be asked to work some longer and some shorter days during the working week.
