Description
The International Union for Conservation of Nature works globally to advance nature conservation and sustainable development. Through scientific research, partnerships, and policy engagement, the organization provides knowledge and tools that help governments, NGOs, and communities address environmental challenges.
The Project Assistant supports the “Updating Faunal Red List of Bangladesh” initiative implemented by IUCN Bangladesh in collaboration with the Bangladesh Forest Department. The role assists with coordination, data collection, documentation, and logistical support for Red List assessment activities across multiple faunal groups. The position works closely with experts, assessors, and partner organizations to ensure timely completion of assessments and related publications.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate Red List assessment activities for assigned faunal groups following approved work plans and guidelines
- Collect, compile, verify, and organize species data required for Red List assessments
- Liaise with lead assessors, national experts, consultants, and Red List Assessment Group members
- Support communication and coordination among Red List project stakeholders
- Organize assessment workshops, training sessions, expert meetings, and validation workshops
- Prepare logistical arrangements and documentation for project events
- Assist with preparation of species assessment forms, tables, figures, and annexes for Red List publications
- Maintain project databases, spreadsheets, and electronic records for assessment data
- Ensure data quality control and version management for project datasets
- Prepare meeting minutes, progress updates, briefing notes, and presentations
- Coordinate with government agencies, academic institutions, and other stakeholders
- Track project deliverables and report challenges or data gaps to project coordinators
- Support monitoring and evaluation activities including data collection and reporting
- Assist with administrative and logistical tasks related to fieldwork and workshops
- Support IT and communications teams in developing Red List web content and databases
- Provide additional project support tasks assigned by programme managers
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in zoology, wildlife, forestry, fisheries, marine science, environmental science, conservation biology, or related discipline
- At least two years of professional experience in programme assistance or project support roles
- Experience supporting field activities, data collection, or conservation projects
- Familiarity with organisational procedures, documentation, and reporting processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to maintain accurate records and support operational project tasks
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within project teams
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Fluency in English and Bangla
Additional Notes
- Full-time fixed-term contract for up to 12 months with possibility of renewal
- Position based at the IUCN Bangladesh Country Office in Dhaka, Bangladesh
- Expected start date May 1, 2026
- Eight positions available supporting different thematic Red List assessment groups
