Description

The Great Basin Institute, based in Reno, Nevada, advances environmental research, education, and conservation across the western United States. Its Research Associate Program places field staff with federal, state, and local land management agencies to support wildlife monitoring, invasive plant surveys, recreation inventories, restoration, and other resource management initiatives.

The Research Associate Program Coordinator supports recruitment, placement, logistics, compliance, and administration for Research Associates working in Nevada and other western states. This office-based role collaborates closely with agency partners and internal teams to ensure smooth program operations, regulatory compliance, and strong support for field-based staff, particularly within National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and U.S. Forest Service partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate recruitment and logistical planning for Research Associate projects and positions
  • Review applications, conduct interviews, procure equipment, and support orientation and training
  • Organize onboarding materials and documentation and ensure timely completion of onboarding requirements
  • Communicate regularly with Research Associates and agency partners regarding status, performance, and administrative matters
  • Build and maintain partnerships with federal, state, tribal, nonprofit, and local government partners
  • Maintain databases tracking program members, deliverables, and performance measures
  • Gather and process data for quarterly and annual reporting requirements
  • Develop and apply systems that improve Research Associate success and satisfaction
  • Process timesheets, expense reports, time-off requests, and other administrative forms
  • Collaborate with program staff on operations, maintenance, and expansion initiatives
  • Assist other Great Basin Institute programs as needed
  • Enforce policies outlined in the Great Basin Institute Personnel Handbook
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, policy, business, or related field, or three or more years of equivalent experience
  • At least one year of experience in project coordination, scheduling, logistics, personnel management, recruitment, retention, training, or mentorship
  • Background in natural resources, land management, conservation, or related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suites
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to learn database systems and project management software
  • Attention to detail and ability to audit and track systems
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits in Nevada, California, and other western states
  • Ability to pass criminal background, FBI, and National Sex Offender Public Registry checks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and familiarity with safe driving practices
  • Familiarity with mission-driven nonprofit organizations

Additional Notes

  • Full-time, onsite position based in Reno, Nevada
  • Starting salary $44,000 to $46,000 annually, depending on experience
