W.F. Baird is a global coastal and marine engineering consultancy delivering infrastructure solutions that protect coastlines, support ports, and restore ecosystems. The firm combines technical expertise with environmental stewardship across international projects.
This senior role supports the expansion of Baird’s presence in Anchorage, Alaska. The position leads the design and delivery of coastal and marine infrastructure projects, with a focus on structural solutions such as shoreline protection, breakwaters, and waterfront systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead planning, design, and delivery of coastal and marine infrastructure projects
- Serve as technical lead and project manager on engineering assignments
- Develop engineering solutions for coastal protection and marine structures
- Oversee preparation of reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
- Act as primary client contact and manage relationships
- Support business development and proposal preparation
- Lead site investigations, condition assessments, and construction oversight
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across projects and locations
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in coastal, civil, or ocean engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E. or P.Eng.)
- Ten years of experience in coastal or marine engineering
- Experience with design and construction of marine infrastructure
- Strong project management and leadership skills
- Knowledge of engineering standards and regulatory frameworks
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to travel for project work
- Must reside in Anchorage, Alaska
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering
- Experience with coastal modeling tools such as HEC-RAS, MIKE21, SWAN, or Delft3D
- Strong knowledge of coastal physics including wave dynamics and sediment transport
- Experience with environmental impact assessments and permitting
- Experience working with government agencies and consulting environments
Additional Notes
- Based in Anchorage, Alaska (remote work possible but residence required locally)
- Involves domestic and international travel, including extended site visits
