Stewards Vista: Lake Fork Valley Conservancy Year 1

Volunteer & Internships Lake Fork Valley Conservancy Lake City, United States Posted May 23, 2026

The Lake Fork Valley Conservancy (LFVC) has worked since 1998 to protect, enhance, and advocate for the natural landscapes of the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River Valley. As a trusted local nonprofit, LFVC engages residents, partners, and visitors in watershed stewardship, conservation education, and community-based environmental initiatives. Based in Lake City, Colorado, this opportunity offers immersion in one of the most remote and scenic regions in the lower 48 states. With a year-round population of about 400 (growing to 3,000 in summer), Hinsdale County is over 90% public land, providing unparalleled access to intact ecosystems and outdoor recreation. The VISTA member will strengthen organizational capacity by developing resources for community outreach and creating volunteer management systems. LFVC seeks a motivated, community-oriented individual who is organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities. Strong communication and writing skills are essential, along with experience or interest in volunteer coordination, environmental education, and outreach tools. Familiarity with tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or GIS platforms is a plus. For more information, applicants can contact the organization directly. Candidates relocating should be prepared for a rural lifestyle with limited services but exceptional access to nature and a close-knit community.
