Job Overview
Position: Chief Executive Officer
Location: Paignton Zoo, Devon (with regular travel to Newquay Zoo and national travel for relevant meetings and events)
Salary: £105,000+ per annum depending on experience
Hours: Full time, with 35 days annual leave (including public holidays in England & Wales)
Role and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a long-term vision and strategic plan to drive growth, increase revenue streams, and enhance financial resilience.
- Innovate and expand visitor offerings, events, and fundraising initiatives including grants, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships.
- Provide inspirational leadership to a high-performing team, foster a culture of collaboration and accountability, and ensure robust succession planning.
- Act as the Trust’s leading ambassador by building strong relationships with stakeholders, members, businesses, educational institutions and governmental organisations.
- Ensure compliance with governance, statutory requirements and safe financial practices while balancing commercial performance with charitable objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven success in developing and executing strategic plans and managing organisational transformation at a senior (CEO or equivalent) level.
- Experience in managing capital projects and operational restructuring in a complex organisation.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen with an entrepreneurial mindset and a track record of growing revenue.
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a commitment to conservation and sustainability.
