Scripps Development, in partnership with University Development and Advancement, serves as a key driver of philanthropic support for Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Birch Aquarium. The team works closely with faculty, leadership, and donors to identify, cultivate, and steward philanthropic partnerships that advance research, education, and strategic initiatives. Private support plays a critical role in advancing innovation, supporting students and faculty, and addressing the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, Marine Sciences, the Development Coordinator, Marine Sciences will be responsible for supporting the fundraising activities and objectives of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) and Birch Aquarium at Scripps (BAS) Development team. The Coordinator will manage and implement cultivation, fundraising, and stewardship activities that support SIO and BAS Development objectives, with a primary focus on donors at the major gift level. The Coordinator will work with Advancement, University Development and SIO and BAS colleagues and supporters to ensure success of events and stewardship programs. The Coordinator will manage all administrative duties as assigned, in conjunction with Scripps Development administrative and programmatic colleagues, provide calendar and travel management of Scripps fundraisers as appropriate, plan and implement BAS board meetings, behind-the-scenes tours, and BAS events, develop and maintain donor-related reporting processes, and partner with SIO and BAS colleagues on the management of annual membership groups.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures. Plans, develops and implements strategies for specific programs, events, policies, constituency groups, etc. Assignments typically include a wide range of external constituencies.
