Overview

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES), Chesapeake Biological Laboratory (CBL), is accepting applications for a Laboratory Research Assistant to assist with a passive acoustic monitoring study for marine mammals offshore of Maryland. This position is an hourly contractual position for 5 months with the possibility of extension dependent upon successful performance and funding availability. Duties will include verifying automated detections of whale calls, working within a research team, analysis of acoustic data to compare detections with previously collected data, and writing reports and manuscripts. Experience with whale acoustics and statistical analysis in R software will be preferable. Applicants should be familiar with scientific writing and have good writing and communication skills. Minimum requirement is a B.S. degree with more than 2 years research experience, which will preferably include marine mammal acoustics and data analysis with coding ability. Salary dependent upon qualifications and experience.
