Description
Aquarium of the Bay, part of Bay.org, is a nonprofit conservation organization focused on protecting and preserving the biodiversity of the San Francisco Bay and surrounding ecosystems. The organization connects science, education, and community engagement to advance environmental stewardship.
This role supports the operation and maintenance of aquarium life support systems, ensuring optimal conditions for aquatic species. The position combines technical system management, preventive maintenance, and coordination with animal care teams to sustain exhibit operations.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, repair, and upgrade aquarium life support systems
- Monitor and update daily life support system logs
- Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records
- Report system failures or issues to management promptly
- Develop and update standard operating procedures for systems
- Train staff on system procedures and updates
- Manage life support system upgrade and installation projects
- Order supplies, parts, and equipment for system operations
- Research new technologies and cost-saving opportunities
- Supervise staff as needed
- Coordinate with Animal Care staff
- Perform additional assigned duties
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma
- Two to five years of experience in life support systems or related field
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to read technical documents and write procedures
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments including lifting up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors around water
Preferred Qualifications
- AALSO certification
