DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

A Noxious Weed Technician must be able to identify noxious weed species, native plant species and have a working knowledge of various tree species. The technician must mix and apply herbicides in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and be able to operate and maintain herbicide application equipment. They will be required to keep comprehensive records of work performed within herbicide application areas. A technician will exercise proper use of all equipment in a safe and professional manner and perform other duties as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have an interest in noxious weed control and range management. One year of experience in noxious weed control is strongly recommended. Ideal applicants will possess or be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Ecology, Forestry, Environmental Conservation, or a related field. Applicants must possess a valid Montana Driver’s License with a clean driving record and must have reliable transportation to and from Bonner, MT. Applicants will be required to have an understanding of: plant and tree identification, navigational tools (Garmin/Avenza/Trimble GPS) that support weed management and re-vegetation efforts, operation and maintenance of equipment, and basic operations of tools. Traveling to and working in remote places across western Montana will be required.

  • withstand a wide range of outdoor conditions including walking long distances with 40 lb backpack, often across steep and difficult terrain
  • absorb and retain information quickly

  • competently maneuver on/off-road vehicles including trucks/ATVs/UTVs
  • maintain attention to detail
  • be punctual

Experience pulling a trailer is a plus.

Crew Leader

A Crew Leader must be able to identify noxious weed species, native plant species and have a working knowledge of various tree species. Technicians and crew leaders must mix and apply herbicides in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and be able to operate and maintain herbicide application equipment. Crew leaders will be expected to: spend extra time at the end of each work day to plan for the next day, determine herbicide amounts required to complete each job, communicate with landowners, delegate relevant tasks to complete each job, oversee/manage technician duties, oversee that proper mapping protocols are being adhered to, and ensure that work is being completed at a level consistent with landowners as well as the companies satisfaction. They will also be required to keep comprehensive records of work performed within herbicide application areas. All employees will exercise proper use of equipment in a safe and professional manner and perform other duties as needed.
