Description
The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences advances research and education in natural resources, agriculture, and environmental systems. This position is based in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences and supports marine research within the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station.
The role focuses on aquaculture system development and restoration of marine species, including corals, sponges, and Diadema antillarum. The position combines research, mentoring, and grant development to support scientific advancement and academic programs.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and engineer aquaculture systems for marine species restoration
- Develop and implement studies on coral, sponge, and urchin production systems
- Analyze data using statistical computing tools such as R
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals
- Supervise graduate and undergraduate research projects
- Serve on graduate committees and mentor students
- Supervise research technicians and project staff
- Secure external funding through grants and contracts
- Contribute to academic programs including teaching and extension activities
Minimum Requirements
- Doctorate in biology, aquaculture, ecology, or related field
- Strong record of publication in aquaculture or marine restoration
- Experience with statistical computing in R
- Demonstrated scientific writing and communication skills
- Experience securing research funding
- Ability to mentor students and collaborate in academic settings
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Diadema antillarum aquaculture research
- Experience in coral husbandry and sponge restoration
- Postdoctoral research experience
- AAUS diving certification

- Schedule: Full-time, 12-month non-tenure track position
