Bristol Zoological Society is a wildlife conservation and education charity, with an outstanding heritage and an exciting future.  The Society is embarking on an exciting new strategy to safeguard our future, by relocating Bristol Zoo to the Wild Place Project site to create a world-class zoo for Bristol and the West of England. The new Bristol Zoo will offer spacious, modern facilities, significant growth in our conservation and education work, and an innovative and exciting visitor experience.

The veterinary department has a vacancy for an experienced zoo veterinarian to join our veterinary team in providing care for all our animals in line with best practice in zoological medicine and with a focus on preventative medicine.

Contract Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £36,865 per annum
Location: Bristol Zoo Gardens and Wild Place Project
Contract Type: 2 year Fixed Term Contract

This is a broad veterinary role which includes the day to day veterinary care of the animal collection, pathology and working closely with keepers to maintain the highest standards of welfare, nutrition and husbandry.  In addition you will provide formal and informal teaching, including lectures, practical and clinical sessions to both undergraduate veterinary students and postgraduate students.

At least 3 years clinical zoo experience with a variety of species is essential, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  A European (ECZM) Specialist in Zoological Medicine (Zoo Health Management) is preferred and teaching experience is desirable.  Applicants must enjoy working in a collaborative environment, must be Members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and hold a valid driving licence.
