Description

Point Blue Conservation Science is a nonprofit organization advancing conservation through science, restoration, and environmental education. The STRAW program focuses on community-based habitat restoration and ecological education across California.

This field-based role supports restoration projects across the South Bay region, working closely with staff, educators, and volunteers. The position combines hands-on ecological restoration, site maintenance, and education support, contributing to habitat improvement and community engagement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and implementing ecological restoration projects and non-native plant management
  • Prepare field sites, coordinate supplies, and communicate with project partners and educators
  • Perform physically demanding fieldwork including carrying equipment and working on uneven terrain
  • Support restoration site maintenance including irrigation installation, weeding, and plant monitoring
  • Maintain native plant nurseries including seed collection, propagation, and pest management
  • Follow best management practices for nursery and field operations
  • Collaborate with staff and lead interns, volunteers, and apprentices in field activities
  • Drive work vehicles and transport equipment to project sites
  • Operate tools and equipment including mowers, utility vehicles, and small engines
  • Observe and enforce safe work practices and use of safety equipment
  • Conduct field mapping and ecological monitoring
  • Assist with water management including adjusting infrastructure and monitoring flow
  • Track supplies, maintain logs, and perform data collection and reporting
  • Oversee vehicle, storage, and tool logistics
  • Mentor and provide direction to field crews and support daily task planning
  • Lead volunteer groups and ensure safe and effective restoration work
  • Support education programs with students, teachers, and community members
  • Assist with planning and logistics for training events and outreach activities
  • Deliver educational lessons and support curriculum activities
  • Perform additional duties and support partnership development as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • One to two years of experience in restoration, natural resources, or related field
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varied conditions
  • Experience working with diverse groups including students and volunteers
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to lead small teams in field settings
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Valid United States driver’s license with favorable driving record
  • Ability to pass background check and fingerprinting for work with students
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform strenuous tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in ecology, biology, horticulture, or related disciplines
  • Experience with habitat restoration, agriculture, or natural resource management
  • Experience operating equipment or performing mechanical tasks
  • Knowledge of ecosystem processes and conservation practices

Additional Notes

  • Location: Based in Campbell, California with fieldwork across South Bay and surrounding counties
  • Schedule: Full-time, typically Monday through Friday with occasional overtime and weekends
  • Duration: June 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027
  • Work Environment: Outdoor fieldwork in varying weather conditions and remote locations
  • Travel: Occasional overnight travel required
