We are a well-established forest nursery located near Whitchurch in North Shropshire, producing a wide range of trees and shrubs for the forestry and amenity markets.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to train for the position of Nursery Manager. This role includes a structured two- to three-year training programme, after which the successful candidate will be offered a full-time position as Nursery Manager.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Full training will be provided across all aspects of nursery management, including:

  • Understanding all practical nursery operations (mechanical and manual)
  • Planning and managing future production
  • Handling sales enquiries and preparing quotes (phone and email)
  • Using computerised stock control systems
  • Working with accounts and budget reports
  • Stocktaking and quantity calculations
  • Calculating land areas and stock density (including seed beds, fertilising and spraying operations)
  • Soil analysis and nutrient management
  • Container and cell-grown production systems
  • Safe and effective use of plant protection products (weed, pest and disease control)
  • Staff management and Health & Safety responsibilities

REQUIREMENTS

  • Full, current UK driving licence (essential)
  • Strong interest in growing and horticulture
  • Practical skills and a hands-on approach
  • Drive, enthusiasm and commitment

No previous experience is required; however, experience in forestry, amenity planting, agriculture, or sales and marketing would be advantageous.
