Overview
The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking an experienced Wildlife Education Curator to join their dynamic wildlife conservation education team in Phoenix, Arizona. This full-time position plays a vital role in managing the department’s live wildlife collection, education programs, and facility operations while upholding high standards of animal care and safety.
Job Summary
The Wildlife Education Curator will manage the Department’s non-releasable live wildlife collection and the Desert Tortoise Adoption Program. The role involves developing and implementing community education and outreach programs, supervising animal care and education staff, and ensuring compliance with state, federal, and departmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the non-releasable live wildlife collection and the Desert Tortoise Adoption Program in accordance with established procedures.
- Oversee safety protocols, audits, inspections, and the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Develop, implement, and manage wildlife education and outreach programs including classes, training sessions, and community events.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate animal care, outreach, and education staff, including interns and volunteers.
- Direct the design, construction, and maintenance of animal enclosures and facility improvements.
- Manage budgets, monitor expenses, and analyze program performance to meet organizational goals.
- Perform additional duties including acting as Education Branch Chief when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Expertise in wildlife conservation and familiarity with native Arizona wildlife.
- Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.
- Proficiency in using digital tools including the Google suite.
- Ability to perform physical work and facility maintenance as required.
Selective Preferences
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife, Zoology, or a related field and at least five years of supervisory experience in a wildlife or curator role are preferred.
Benefits
This position offers a competitive salary range of $56,098 - $100,989 along with a comprehensive benefits package which includes sick leave, vacation, parental leave, health and dental insurance, retirement plan, and additional employee benefits.
Additional Information
The role is classified as FLSA Exempt (Grade 24). All new hires must complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify) and may be required to hold a valid driver’s license if driving is involved in the role.
