Stand out from the crowd with a killer application

Have you found your dream job and need to submit a killer application? Do you have all the right skills and experience but you’re still struggling to land an interview? Are you switching careers and wondering how to showcase your transferrable skills?

You’re in the right place!

We know that conservation can be a very competitive sector. Employers can easily receive tens or even hundreds of applications, especially for early career roles, with very little time to review. This means that you need to stand out from the crowd at a glance.

How do we help?

At Conservation Careers we know what conservation employers are looking for, based on interviews with hiring managers and an analysis of the top skills in demand for jobs. With over 30 years’ cumulative experience in the industry, we’ve identified the key steps to writing applications that get interviews.

We can help you showcase yourself as a top candidate in your CV/resume, cover letter and/or application form.

A Conservation Careers Application Review includes:

  • Comments in your application documents. You’ll receive specific comments in your CV/resume, cover letter and/or application form, so you can see exactly which aspects of your application can be improved.
  • A detailed review of your application against the employer’s criteria. For each of the employer’s essential and desirable criteria, we’ll let you know how well you’ve done, and how you can improve.
  • A summary of the main points to consider or change. We’ll identify the key changes that can take your application to the next level.
  • Spelling and grammar check. We don’t re-write text for you, but we do point out any spelling and grammar problems.

If you are struggling to find and get a job in conservation, the secret to your success will be by using Conservation Careers! I did not get the job, but to go from never receiving an interview offer to making it to the last 2 applicants out of 200 on an international scale was incredible! I certainly have not given up! It gave me a real confidence boost that I do have the skills and knowledge to achieve my life long goal of working in conservation! Conservation Careers is probably one of the best things to happen to us job seekers in the conservation industry, we are very lucky to have this service!” – Belinda Laybourne, 2020.

“I have been hired for my first job out of college: studying salamanders for the Salamander Population & Adaptation Research Collaboration Network (https://sparcnet.org/). This was a dream job for me and I am so thankful to the training and advice I’ve received on CC for helping me. I’d also specifically like to thank Kristi who gave me application feedback and interview practice. I was so nervous and stressed out and she provided valuable feedback for me along with being kind and flexible. I highly recommend utilising all the resources you can get from CC! 🙂 ” – Sophia Trent, USA, June 2024.

“When I saw my dream job come up I knew I couldn’t miss my chance! I decided to get the help and advice from Conservation Careers and, guess what, it paid off: I got the job! They really took the time to review my application in detail and provided me with invaluable feedback. Not only the common advice you get to hear everywhere, but a very personal, challenging but encouraging, positive analysis and comments. They made me see the application process differently, as an opportunity more than an obstacle to overcome.” Lise Goudeseune, Brussels.

“This was such a great experience! I’ve received high quality advice and support! During my application process I felt as if I have my own team supporting me. Following received guidance I have learned much more than I would on my own. Total recommendation.” Karolina Kass, Edinburgh.

“Thank you very much for the expeditious help and support that you have provided for my application. In particular, Conservation Careers’ review was very thoughtful, comprehensive and clear – I was impressed, despite the fast turn-around time that we had! It’s exactly the feedback I was hoping to get when I first subscribed as a member. Together with the guide, what you provided was great support to ensure a quality application!” – Anonymous, International Agency, October 2019.

“I arranged my CV according to your reviews and sent it for the first time today. I must say I feel much more comfortable with this new version. Part of my desire for a review was because even I wasn’t sure if I liked my CV, so how would recruiters like it? I’m much happier and secure now with it! Thanks a lot for all the guidance.” – Gabriela González Segura, January 2021.

“I found out today I was successful in my application for the JNCC and was made an offer of employment. Thank you so much for all the help with the preparation – the application feedback and mock interview were extremely helpful!” – Matt Livesey, March 2021.

“I could not recommend this service more! Kristi helped me massively – I now understand what I need to improve on in my applications and what employers are looking for. “I got a second interview for the RSPB job but sadly just missed out to another candidate in the end. I was also told I came a close second for an interview for another role! In both instances though the interviewers gave very positive feedback and said I interviewed very well, it was just a case of being up against someone with more specific experience to the role. So while I’m disappointed, I still owe you a lot for the training you gave me, it certainly helped with my interview preparation and performance!” – Matthew Phelps, UK, August 2021.

“Hi Kristi & Nick, Firstly I want to say many thanks for all the help and advice you have given me over the past year. It has seemed like a long process, but i have now at last got some job options! … Kristi, after the advice you provided on my application around new year, I’ve had 7 interview invites using it as a template (including the one you actually commented on) – so an incredible improvement – thanks so much!” – Jerry Aylmer.

I WAS JUST ACCEPTED FOR THE POSITION WITH ASA!!! I can barely believe it. I am actually panicking about how massive a change this would be for everything in my life and future career. Don’t think I thought for a second I had a real chance of getting it. I just really wanted it. This is immense.

I obviously need to take some time and process this and come to terms with it. But it is incredible. I am very grateful for your advice, thank you so much! Would never have got a position so quickly without it! I never thought I could be so lucky as to go from confused ideas about changing careers to having a solid opportunity in the span of less than two months. Your help and the materials on the website were truly invaluable, I cannot rate them highly enough. Thank you.” – Anonymous, November 2021.
