The Secret to Getting Lucky (in Conservation)
There’s a saying that’s always stuck with me: “You make your luck.” It’s often discussed in career circles, especially when someone lands a dream job or has a significant breakthrough. And while I think there’s truth in that, I also think it’s a bit more nuanced, especially in the conservation world.
Yes, luck matters. But what matters is how ready we are to seize opportunities when they come knocking.
Luck = Preparation + Opportunity
In my experience, most “lucky breaks” are the result of someone being prepared and ready when the right opportunity arrives. That’s why I’m so excited about what’s happening right now at Conservation Careers.
We’ve just reached a new milestone: we’re now listing over 10,000 live conservation jobs on our site. To put that into perspective, that’s roughly seven times more opportunities than we’ve ever hosted before, and it makes us the biggest conservation job board in the world.
