Overview

Responsibilities: The Communications Intern will work with the Our Task team to improve Our Task’s communications and social media presence. You will help to create internal documents such as guidebooks for Facebook and Twitter, create new accounts on social media sites, and develop a social media plan.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining our social media sites
  • Helping to recruit new bloggers
  • Creating new social media accounts
  • Developing guides for staff, volunteers, and interns on how to use our social media sites
  • Develop creative new ways to keep in touch with our donors
  • Helping maintain our website
  • Helping maintain contact databases
  • Planning and advertising fundraising events
  • Conducting data entry and analysis using our contact and communications database tool (NationBuilder)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current students working towards a Bachelor’s Degree are encouraged to apply.
  • Social media and communications experience.
  • Working knowledge of national and global sustainability issues and a personal commitment to living sustainably.
  • Experience in grassroots social change initiatives desired, but not required.  
  • Marketing experience desired, but not required.
  • Strong written/verbal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite Applications.
  • Highly self-directed individual who can develop new projects and take on previously existing projects and make them their own.

Commitment:

  • Part to full-time, 10-20 hours per week. Hours are flexible. Willingness to work on weekends if necessary.
  • We ask that you stay with us for at least 3 months (ideally September-December).

Location:

  • Most work can be done from home. You will need to be able to occasionally come to our office, located within walking distance to Clarendon Metro.

Compensation:

  • This is an unpaid position. We can work with you and your university to arrange for academic credit for your work with Our Task. The position can be altered to fit your institution’s requirements for credit.
