Development Officer Volunteer

The Development Officer Volunteer is expected to work alongside the development team to manage and strengthen fundraising for Ya’axché’s programs according to Ya’axché’s Fundraising Strategy. This is an unpaid position. Specific tasks will include:

  • Researching funding opportunities
  • Developing project concepts and proposals and ensure that: proposal development is in line with Ya’axché’s strategic plan, balanced across programs, and addresses identified priorities
  • Maintain relationships with donors by making >6 points of contact per year

Duration of placement

Minimum 6 months commitment

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in environmental sciences or a relevant field
  • Excellent written and spoken English is essential (fluency)
  • Good working skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong interest in environmental science and conservation
  • Strong cultural sensitivity

Desired qualifications

  • 2 years of work experience
  • Experience with grant-writing
  • Experience working with communities in developing countries

Volunteer personal expenses

The volunteer is expected to arrange and pay for:

  • Transportation to Punta Gorda, Belize, including international airfare
  • Food, personal expenses, in-country travel, rent (if living in Punta Gorda instead of the field station)
