Position available at
ELIE’s Elephant Valley Project

www.elephantvalleyproject.org
12km from Sen Monorom, Mondulkiri, Cambodia

Description
Here at the Elephant Valley Project visitors and volunteers are a key aspect of this project, after the elephants of course. We have day visitors, short term independent travelers, week long group programs and long term volunteers. All visitors and volunteers visit the elephants and watch them in their natural habitat, while volunteering onsite to continue to develop it for elephant care.
We are currently looking to fill the position of Elephant and Forest Guide, to lead the daily tour programs to visit the elephants and engage with visitors in an interpretive way, educating them on the elephants, forest conservation and local community development programs.
You will be based in the town of Sen Mororom, 12 km from the project, where you will meet visitors Mon – Fri and bring them to the site for the tour. You will also be required to stay onsite a couple of nights a week to help the volunteer coordinator. Please note there is a lot of hiking involved across tough terrain to get to the elephants, sometimes between 2-5km per day, whilst also talking to and engaging with visitors, therefore you will need to be fit, energetic and passionate about animal welfare and conservation.

You will receive a local salary, which is more than enough to cover your living expenses while here. An initial commitment of 1 year is required or longer for the right person. We are looking for someone to start at the end of August or beginning of September.

Essential

Outdoor education, interpretive guiding or groups management background necessary for this position

Current first aid certificate (preferably field First aid/rescue situations)

You will need to be a bubbly, outgoing and resourceful person who is ready to deal with all the questions and problems from visitors that pop up daily

Preferable

Basic knowledge of conservation

You don’t need to have any real experience with elephants, as this will be all learnt on the job, however a keen interest in wildlife is essential.

Experience on an ecotourism project, voluntourism project or something similar would be an advantage.
