  • Location: Cambridge, UK
  • Full time: 35 hours per week
  • Contract: Open-ended
  • Salary: £38,000 – £45,000 pro rata per annum dependent on experience plus competitive 12% pension benefit
  • Annual Leave: 25 days pro rata per annum in year 1, increasing by 1 day pa to 28 days

We are seeking to appoint a Head of Policy to lead BirdLife International’s global policy and advocacy team in Cambridge.

Working closely with BirdLife’s Regional Policy teams the post holder will:

  1. Lead and co-ordinate the implementation of BirdLife’s global policy and advocacy work to achieve BirdLife’s strategic objectives through its programmes
  2. Coordinate and support the development of positions of the BirdLife Partnership on relevant policy and advocacy issues and promote them through a range of approaches and fora to achieve policy change
  3. Support national BirdLife Partners around the world to strengthen their policy and advocacy capacity and effectiveness

The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of high level involvement in management, policy formulation and advocacy with specific technical experience in one or more policy sectors (e.g. biodiversity, energy, forests, climate, sustainable development, agriculture). The person will have excellent knowledge of international environmental issues, processes, institutions and treaties, especially related to biodiversity conservation. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of complex policy and programmatic issues and be able to explain and advocate them to a wide range of audiences.
